A tropical botanic garden, open by appointment only, on the fringes of one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. This tour, led by the garden’s own ethnobotanist, focuses on the interaction between plants and people. With more than 250 species of tropical plants, the tour promises that “you’ll never look at a plant, or your world, in the same way again.”

The garden, which overlooks Everglades National Park, is often visited by local and migrating birds. On this tour, bird-lovers will enjoy drawing many parallels between how humans and birds rely on plants for their daily survival. Visit Kona Kai Resort‘s website for more information.

A limited number of accommodations are available with rates discounted by $50 per night for 2 or more nights booking by festival attendees. Call 800-365-7829.

Cost: $20 donation to the garden.
