This tour focuses on the fossilized coral reef that is the foundation of Keys, and ecosystems that thrive atop this rock. The relatively high elevation of this part of the elevated reef provided quarry-rock for building not only Flagler’s railroad but also the Dade County Courthouse in Miami. The guided walk along the nature trails through the park’s varied habitats will show how slight elevation changes produce dramatic variations in the ecosystems.
